SYLHET. NOV 27: Police have unearthed the clue to the killing of an expatriate for taka one million after 18 months of his going 'missing' from his village residence in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district.
They would soon exhume the victim's body from grave after receiving the court order, police officials said.
Hailing from Dighirpar of Jagannathpur upazila headquarters, Abdul Gofur, 55, came home from the UK on May 8, 2017.
He went to a relative's house on the following day before starting for Sylhet city to meet Kobiraj Abul Kalam, also an employee of Citrus Research Institute in Jaintapur.
Since then, he remained traceless, family sources informed. The victim's relative Lal Mia filed a general diary on October 20 keeping a cell phone number in focus with Jogonnathpur police station, in line with a phone call from his family staying in the UK.
Accordingly, police started investigation and suspected involvement of herbal healer Abul Kalam.
Sub-inspector Habibur Rahman of Jagannathpur police station on Sunday afternoon arrested three persons from Nijpat village of Jaintapur upazila.
They are Citrus Institute's employee Abul Kalam Azad, 52, hailing from Brahmangaon Uttarpara in Jagannathpur, his son-in-law Anwar Hossain, 30, also teacher of Jaintapur Darus Sunnah Madrasah and Junab Ali, 42, of Nijpat Mokamtila in Jaintapur.
The trio admitted that they had buried the man's body after killing.
Police afterwards marked the scene and hanged red flags there before seeking court's permission for exhuming the body.
Officer-in-charge of Jaintapur PS Khan Md Mainul Zakir told this correspondent police were waiting for the court order to exhume the body soon.
The arrestees were sent to jail following an order of the magistrate court today.
