Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Monday said the country will return to normalcy soon, calling upon all to cooperate with the army, reports BSS.

"Chaotic situation was created in the country. There was a loss of lives and properties. Many public assets were destroyed. In fact, the Bangladesh Army has been deployed to protect the lives and properties," he told a press conference at Sheikh Russell Skating Stadium in the capital.

The army chief said, "I think restoration of normal situation has started to the country within 48 hours of army deployment".

He also said Bangladesh Army along with Bangladesh Air Force, Navy, police RAB, BGB and Ansar personnel have been working together to bring normalcy in the country.

"We all together have been moving towards a peaceful situation. Insha Aallah, I think if we work together, we will be able to improve the situation more," he said.

Mentioning the army is getting cooperation from all, including mass media, Waker-Uz-Zaman said the media have been publishing news with responsibility and presenting accurate information.

"Media encouraged the army. You observed what destruction was carried out," he added.

The army chief said all the media, law enforcement agencies and commoners want to return normalcy to the country together.

"Today (on Monday) I visited different areas in the city to witness the loss and damages of public properties. I do not know how many days will be required to recover the loss and damages. Those are not private properties but those are public assets," he said.

The army chief said protecting the public properties is the responsibility for all and "we all are working together to this end".

Responding to a question, Waker-Uz-Zaman said there may be angriness but the properties are the public ones.

"I do not know what benefit will come by destroying the public properties," he said, adding that it will take a little time to restore internet and utility services.

Replying to another query, he said supply chain has started while aviation tools are being supplied to the airports from Narayanganj.

The army chief said: "You have seen the destructive acts, while the burned vehicle still remains abandoned on the streets. It will take time to remove those."
