Couple among 4 killed in Jessore road accident

JESSORE, July 30 (UNB): Four people, including a couple, were killed and eight others injured in a collision between a bus and a three-wheeler (Nasimon) at Gopalpur crossing in Sadar Upazila Wednesday.

The deceased, passengers of the Nasimon, were identified as Nijamuddin, an accountant of Ad-din Hospital in the town and his wife Salma Sultana, staff nurse of the same hospital, a female college student Tania Khatun. Identity of another victim, a young girl, could not be known immediately.

Police said the accident occurred on Jessore-Khulna Highway at about 9am when a Khulna-bound bus of Banaful Paribahan collided with the three-wheeler carrying at least 14 passengers.

The four passengers of the three-wheeler died on the spot while its eight other passengers were injured.

The couple was coming to the Sadar hospital by the three-wheeler from their residence at Balarampur village in the upazila.

The injured were admitted to Sadar hospital where conditions of two were stated to be critical.

The bus driver managed to flee the scene along with his vehicle.
