Court's door always open for students: CJ

Chief Justice (CJ) Obaidul Hassan on Thursday said the door of the court is always open for the students, who are now continuing movement against the quota system in the government jobs.
During proceedings of the Supreme Court, the CJ, addressing the lawyers present, said, "Why do they [the students] talk about the executive department? Any decision of the executive department can be challenged with the court. The court's door is always open for them."
He was presiding over a full bench of the Appellate Division for hearing and disposing the cases.
The CJ further said, "The protesting students can place their demands in the court through their lawyers. We will listen to their statement with importance."
Senior lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan, who was present in the court during the proceedings, confirmed the court observation to the FE.
Students of the universities across the country and other job seekers have been continuing their agitation for one week, seeking abolition of the quota system from the government jobs.
The protest has been triggered recently following a High Court verdict that on June 5 declared illegal the circular, issued in 2018 abolishing all quota system in the government jobs.
The case is now pending with the Appellate Division. The apex court has issued a status quo on the case for four weeks. It has not been possible for the apex court to hold a full hearing on the matter, as the High Court's full verdict has not been published yet.
