Crops, vegetables damaged by flood

COMILLA, Aug 28 (UNB): Cereal crops and vegetables on 17,649 hectares of land have been damaged by the recent flood in the district.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said 42,185 hectares of land had gone under flood water and crops on 8,276 hectares of land had been totally damaged.
The flood damaged 65,326 tonnes cereal crops and vegetables and 208 bales of jute worth about Tk 940.50 million, the source said.
Transplanted Aush on 11,340 hectares, broadcast Aman on 1098 hectares, vegetables on 3,386 hectares, T-Aman seedbeds on 1,634 hectares, T-Aman on 38 hectares, jute on 26 hectares and various types of spices on 127 hectares of land had been damaged, DAE source said.
About 6,183 farmers of the district had been affected by the recent flood.
