CHITTAGONG, Oct 10: Most of the city roads are in a very deplorable state and have become quite unfit for movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
It is alleged that the contractors do not supply adequate quantities of bitumen and stones, the main construction materials, at the time of building the road or during repairs.
According to the concerned sources, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) sought an allocation of Tk 200 million for reconstruction of city roads while only Tk 80 million has been made available for the purpose.
Big sized holes and cracks have developed all over the roads which have become quite unfit for movement of the pedestrians and vehicles.
Most of the city roads excepting a few have more or less been damaged during the ongoing rainy season. If the situation persists for long, entire road communication system in the port city may collapse in the near future.
Meanwhile: The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and Care Bangladesh today signed an agreement to ensure development of slum-dwellers under 10 wards of the city.
Care Bangladesh would extend financial and technical assistance in implementing the project which involves Taka 20 million. The tenure of the project is two years which would be implemented under the overall supervision of CCC.
