CHITTAGONG, Sept 23 : City dwellers here have become hostage to the rickshaw pullers and CNG drivers who are realising fares according to their whims as no prescribed rate of fare is now in force here for the journey made on these two types of vehicles.
Majority of the city dwellers are to take rickshaws or CNG taxis for their daily movement and the rickshaw pullers and CNG drivers are at a liberty to demand excess and unjustified fares in absence of such prescribed fares.
Unpleasant incidents are occurring almost regularly centring on the excess fares being realised by the drivers. The passengers are not spared even on realisation of excess fare, sometimes they are assaulted by the rickshaw pulllers and CNG taxi drivers.
The drivers are realising excess and unjustified fares on the plea of price hike of the essentials, traffic congestions and other grounds and the passengers are to bear the brunt.
.Rickshaw and CNG taxi fares should be fixed on kilometre basis, the conscious sections of citizens observed.
