Ctg roads in sorry state for rain

CHATTOGRAM, July 13: Most of the roads in the port city have turned dilapidated amid monsoon rain, causing troubles for traffic and commuters.
Transport workers say cracks and potholes have developed in most roads and alleys. Commuters are suffering a lot due to the dilapidated condition of the streets.
Bricks and pitches of the roads have been damaged due to lack of repair work, they add.
Traffic in the port city recently collapsed due to the waterlogging triggered on the streets in the first week of this month for heavy rain.
When contacted, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Alhaj Rezaul Karim told The Financial Express, "We have already started repairing main roads in the city. The repair work will be completed soon."
"We have already taken steps to make drains and canals clear this monsoon to solve waterlogging on the city streets," he added.
Sources said the dilapidated roads at Agrabad, Barik Building, Chattogram Port area, Patenga, Steel Mills, Katgor Bazar, Airport, Muradpur, Oxygen Intersection, Sholoshohor, Dewanhat, Olanker Intersection, Port Connecting Road, Bohoddarhat, College Road, Jamal Khan, Momin Road, Station Road, Kadamtali, Dhonialapara, Chawk Bazar, Sholok Bahar, Katalganj, Bakalia, New Market, SS Khaled Road, Mehdibag, OR Nizam Road, Pahartali and Bayezid Bostami are now unfit for traffic.
As the monsoon has set in, waterlogging is created on the city roads, causing damage, they added.
City-dwellers said the city streets get waterlogged due to a faulty drainage system after a downpour takes place.
Almost all the low-lying areas of the city go underwater due to a torrential rain.
Meanwhile, transport owners have to spend additional money on repairing their vehicles plying the run-down roads.
