Customs arrest two over gold smuggling at HSIA

Customs officials arrested an Aviation Security Force member and a passenger from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Saturday night for their alleged involvement in gold smuggling, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Md Shariful Islam, a resident of Ghatail in Tangail district, and a member (card no: TC2017) of the security team and Md Yakub Miah.
Based on secret information, separate teams of Customs House, Customs Preventive Team and Customs officials took positions at different important points of the passenger terminal, said Customs House Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury.
The team challenged passenger Md Yakub Miah while he was crossing green channel after getting down from a Saudi Airlines flight (SV-804) around 9:00 pm.
Later, the team found clues fromYakub's mobile phone and started following Shariful.
Sensing danger, Shariful tried to flee away from the airport. However, the team managed to catch him.
