Cyber Security Strategy in the making: Telecom minister

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam on Tuesday told parliament that the government is preparing a comprehensive Cyber Security Strategy (2026-2030) to further strengthen the country's cyber security framework, report UNB.
"The preparation of the 'Cyber Security Strategy (2026-2030)' by the National Cyber Security Agency under the Information and Communication Technology Division is underway to strengthen cyber security," he said.
The minister said this while replying to a starred question from treasury bench lawmaker AKM Fazlul Haque Milon (Gazipur-5) in the house.
He said a preliminary draft of the strategy has already been completed.
In response to another starred question from ruling party MP Abdullah Al Amin (Narayanganj-4), Mahbub Anam highlighted several government initiatives aimed at making internet and mobile services more affordable for the people.
"The government has implemented 'One Country, One Rate' for broadband internet to bring down the cost of internet and mobile usage to a reasonable level," he said.
Subsequently, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued directives for all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and International Internet Gateways (IIGs) to further reduce internet prices and make services more accessible to marginalised communities, he said.
On February 18, 2026, BTRC fixed broadband internet tariffs at Tk 400 for 5 Mbps, Tk 500 for 10 Mbps, Tk 800 for 20 Mbps and Tk 1,200 for 40 Mbps connections, said the Minister.
Responding to a starred question from BNP lawmaker Zahidul Islam Dhalu (Naogaon-5), the minister said 4G technology has already been rolled out across the country and the government is working to commercially expand 5G services across Bangladesh.
He said limited-scale 5G services are currently available at around 40 locations in Dhaka, including the airport, railway stations, key residential areas and commercial hubs.
