DB police arrest ex-MP Shariful Islam Jinnah

The Detective Branch (DB) police arrested Shariful Islam Jinnah, former Bogura-2 constituency lawmaker, from Ramna area in the capital early Friday.

An official said a team of DB police, based on intelligence information, conducted a special drive and arrested him.

Jinnah is the president of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) Bogura district unit.

He is an accused in multiple cases, including a murder case linked to a death during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in 2024. Around 10 cases against him are currently under trial in court.

A case was filed against Jinnah with Shibganj Police Station under the Explosives Act and sections of the Penal Code on October 7 last year. He had been absconding since then, the OC added.
