India seeks to further deepen trade ties with Bangladesh making the best use of potential of trade expansion, said a visiting Indian Minister in the city Sunday, reports UNB.

"There is plenty of scope to expand Bangladesh's trade in India, particularly in the north-eastern region," said General (retd) VK Singh, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region, External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs.

He assured Bangladesh of providing all possible Indian support to explore the opportunities of trade expansion.

The assurance came when he met Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter's office.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran and Director General (DG-South Asia Wing) Tareq M Ariful Islam were present.

The Indian state minister said he had a meeting with the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern Region of India before he arrived in Dhaka.

He informed the Bangladesh Foreign Minister that they had fruitful discussion on connectivity and trade issues which are necessary for this region's development.

Mahmood Ali expressed the hope that the friendly relations between the two countries would reach a new height in the coming days.

He laid emphasis on expanding trade relations between the two countries, particularly deepening trade relations with India's north-eastern region, apart from cooperation in the energy sector.

VK Singh came to Dhaka  Saturday on a two-day visit to attend the India-Bangladesh Business Conclave held in the city Sunday.

VK Singh's visit follows the visit in June 2014 of India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
