DEMU train introduced on Dhaka-Tongi route

Bangladesh Railway (BR) introduced Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train service on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka route Tuesday, report agencies.
Railway Minister Mujibul Haque inaugurated the DEMU train service as the chief guest while Railway Ministry acting secretary Muhammad Monsur Ali Shikdar presided over the function at Tongi Railway Station in Gazipur on the day.
The DEMU train service styled 'Tongi Commuter' would leave Kamlapur at 5:25 am and reach Tongi by 6:10 am. The train will leave Tongi by 7:40 am and reach Kamlapur station by 8:35 am.
The train will make stopover at Dhaka Airport station and the service will remain closed Friday.
A DEMU train has the capacity to carry around 600 passengers.
Mujibul Haque said that the government had taken a master plan by undertaking various projects for development of the railway service. The whole country would come under the network of railway service if the projects are implemented in due time.
Earlier on April 24, 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched DEMU train service on busy Dhaka-Narayanganj route for the first time to make commuters' movement easier and faster and reduce traffic congestions in the southern part of Dhaka.
