As many as 395 more people have been hospitalised with dengue fever nationwide in the past 24 hours, taking the count for hospital admissions from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease this year to 22,065, reports bdnews24.com.
As the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) only records the number of hospitalised patients, the true number of dengue infections in Bangladesh remains unknown with many infected individuals not seeking medical admissions.
The DGHS also reported that two dengue patients died in the past 24 hours until Monday morning. One died at a hospital in Barishal, and the other in Chattogram.
Three people have died of dengue in the first four days of August. July saw 41 deaths, the highest monthly tally this year.
The second highest was in June, with 19 deaths. In addition, 10 people died in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.
The number of hospitalisations due to dengue this year reached its peak in July, with 10,684 patients. The second-highest number was in June, with 5,951 individuals. Moreover, 1,161 patients were admitted to the hospital in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.
The highest number of new patients admitted in the past 24 hours was in the two city corporations of Dhaka, with 84.
A total of 58 patients were admitted in the Barishal Division, 72 in the rest of the Dhaka Division, six in Mymensingh, 61 in Chattogram, 56 in Khulna, 45 in Rajshahi, nine in Rangpur, and four in Sylhet.
Currently, 1,235 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country with dengue, 349 in Dhaka, and 886 outside the capital.
