Bangladesh continues to grapple with the threats of dengue and Covid-19, as the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday reported two dengue-related deaths and one Covid-19-related death in the past 24 hours.
The latest dengue deaths occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Chittagong Division, raising the total number of fatalities from the disease to 83 so far this year.
During the same period, 278 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, pushing the total number of confirmed cases to 20,980 in 2025. At present, 1,262 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.
Regionally, Barisal Division reported the highest number of new dengue cases with 72, followed by 46 in Dhaka Division (outside city corporations), 35 each in Chittagong Division (outside city corporation), Rajshahi Division and DSCC, 28 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 18 in Khulna Division, five in Rangpur Division, and four in Mymensingh Division.
Last year, Bangladesh witnessed an unprecedented dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and over 101,000 reported cases, with more than 100,000 recoveries.
Meanwhile, the DGHS confirmed one more death from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 29 in 2025.
