Dense fog disrupts flight operation at HSIA

A cold wave has hit parts of Bangladesh, with the lowest temperature of 9.0°C being recorded in Syedpur, Nilphamari district on Tuesday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), reports UNB.
This cold wave, accompanied by dense fog, has disrupted normal activities, including flight operations in the capital city.
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport experienced an interruption of eight and a half hours in flight operations on Tuesday due to the dense fog.
Six flights that failed to land at the airport were diverted to Sylhet and Chittagong international airports, Executive Director of Shahjalal Airport Group Captain Mohammad Kamrul Islam said.
He said flights could not operate normally from 12 am to 8:30 am due to fog, he said adding that flight operations resumed at 9am after the weather returned to normal.
According to a Met office bulletin, moderate to thick fog may occur over the country during midnight of Tuesday to Wednesday morning and it may continue till Wednesday noon at places over the country.
Air navigation, inland river transport and road communication may disrupt due to thick fog, it said.
Night temperature may fall by (1-2)°Cover Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and it may rise slightly over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions.
Day temperature may fall slightly over the country.
Due to thick fog, cold day condition may prevail at places over the country, it said.
Report from Kurigram adds: The northern district of Kurigram has been grappling with severe cold and dense fog over the past three days, significantly disrupting daily life and activities.
