Devotees from 28 countries arrive to join Bishwa Ijtema

GAZIPUR, Jan 19 (BSS): A large number of devotees from 28 countries, including India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia, have arrived to attend the three-day Bishwa Ijtema (world congregation) of the Muslims beginning on January 22.
The devotees were staying in different mosques around the ijtema ground, said Abdul Quddus, one of the organisers of the ijtema.
They would be allowed to stay in special pandals erected for them from tomorrow (Thursday), he added.
A total of 25,000 foreign devotees are expected to join this year's ijtema.
The State minister for Religious Affairs Shajahan Mia Tuesday visited the ijtema ground to see the preparations.
Religious Affairs Secretary Abdur Rab and Tongi Municipality Mayor Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan accompanied the state minister.
State Minister said government was taking adequate measures and ensuring various facilities for all devotees joining the ijtema.
A large number of canopies have been erected on the ijtema ground.
