Dhaka-Beijing for further cooperation in agri-sector

Dhaka and Beijing have agreed to boost technical cooperation in developing and inventing hybrid paddy and using farming machinery, reports BSS.
The agreement was reached at the first meeting of Bangladesh- China Joint Committee on Agriculture at the conference room of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) at Farmgate in the city Tuesday.
Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department of China Lu Ziaosing led a 10-member Chinese team, comprising government officials and businessmen, at the meeting. Additional Secretary of the ministry of Agriculture Syed Nakib Muslim led the Bangladesh team.
The meeting decided to strengthen technical cooperation between the two countries in exchanging germ-plasm and conduct short and long-term training.
The two sides agreed to prepare an effective action plan for strengthening cooperation in developing agriculture sector in the light of a memorandum of understanding the two countries signed on April 7, 2005.
Meanwhile, a 10-member delegation, headed by Lu Xiaoping, Deputy Director General of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, China visited Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) today in Gazipur.
