FE Report | October 12, 2014 00:00:00

Dhaka Education Board has blacklisted some 47 secondary school teachers for their alleged failure in evaluating answer scripts of the public examinations properly, officials said.

They said the board authorities recently issued a circular in this connection that imposed a ban on providing answer scripts to these examiners for the next five years.

"After having re-scrutiny of some papers of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, the board had found massive mismatch including that in numbering", said examination controller Dr Srikanta Kumar Chanda.

He said they have taken the decision to make all other examiners more serious during the evaluation process of the answer scripts as the results directly affect future of the students.

He said after re-scrutiny, the board authorities had to bring changes in the published results of 594 candidates of the SSC examinations this year.

According to official data, some 98,731 SSC and its equivalent examinees including those who secured the highest grade point average (GPA-5) submitted 167,162 applications to their respective boards as they were unhappy with the results they had achieved.

Of the total petitions, Dhaka Board received 51,039, Chittagong Board 11,927, Comilla Board 14,134, Barisal Board 8,516, Dinajpur Board 10,173, Jessore Board 20,072, Rajshahi Board 14,780, Sylhet Board 7,132, Madrasah Board 17,838 and Technical Education Board 11,551 applications.

This year, the results in SSC and equivalent examinations have crossed the previous records with 91.34 per cent pass rate. The number of highest grade point holders also went up by 51,050 as this year about 142,276 students achieved the uppermost marks.
