Newly appointed World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Bangladesh Dr Navaratnasamy Paranietharan appreciated Monday Dhaka's 'strong leadership' in implementing WHO programmes in the country, reports UNB.
The WHO's support in Bangladesh's health sector will continue in future the way it has been supporting the country since the last 40 years, Dr Paranietharan assured when he met Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter's office to present his credentials.
The minister thanked the WHO for its generous support in achieving the MDGs, specially reducing child and maternal mortality rates in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the WHO representative discussed the post-2015 sustainable development agenda.
Dr Paranietharan, who has notable achievements in health systems strengthening, health sector coordination, and technical assistance to governments and development partners throughout his career, arrived in Dhaka on July 18.
Before joining the WHO in Bangladesh, he worked as the Senior Health Systems Strengthening Advisor with USAID in Uganda from 2010 to June 2014.
