All undocumented Rohingya refugees from Myanmar must be tracked down, as they may get involved in international gun running and militancy.
"Rohingya refugees remained a serious concern for Bangladesh since 1978, when a flight took place from Myanmar to Bangladesh," said Prof Dr Imtiaz Ahmed of the Department of International Relations of Dhaka University while presenting keynote speech at a panel discussion.
There are still at least 0.2 million undocumented Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh besides those living in the camps though they returned to Myanmar in 1978 and 1992 under an agreement between the two countries.
The birth of the stateless Rohingyas and their becoming refugees is a critical situation for Bangladesh, he added.
He suggested raising the issue at the global level and to seek international support to such an initiative.
"The issue has become a forgotten matter in the global context and that the international community should pay more attention to it," said Arjun Jain, acting representative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Dhaka.
