DMP arrests 179 on various charges, files 64 cases

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 179 individuals in different places of the capital on various charges and filed 64 cases in the last 24 hours from 6:00 am on Tuesday to 6:00 am on Wednesday.

Deputy Police Commissioner (media and public relations) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that a total of 667 mobile police teams from 50 police stations has been working around the clock to ensure safety for city dwellers. Of them, 340 mobile teams are working during the day while 327 teams at night. He said that as many as 71 checkpoints have been set up at different strategic and important places in the city.

Mr Rahman further said that of the arrestees, three were involved with robbery, eight with snatching, two with extortion, ten with thefts, 27 with drugs trading and 43 were wanted for criminal activities, among others.

Four knives, two machetes, two mobile phones, one car, one auto-rickshaw, 1,613 Yaba tablets, 2.9 kg hashish and a small amount of heroin and Tk 11,700 in cash were recovered from them.
