DNCC announces Tk 55.9b budget

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) announced its budget of Tk 55.94 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Sunday.
The budget was approved at a meeting held at the Nagar Bhabhan in Gulshan-2.
The meeting also approved the amendment of the previous budget for the fiscal year 2023-24, during which the DNCC collected a record revenue of Tk 10.78 billion, an increase of around 76 per cent in four years.
Mayor Md Atiqul Islam chaired the meeting, with DNCC Secretary Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique moderating the discussion. DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Capt Mohammad Fida Hasan, heads of different departments, councilors, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
The DNCC mayor mentioned that the Prime Minister has instructed the City Corporation to become financially self-reliant and increase its capacity.
"Following her directions, we have started activities with the aim of increasing the capacity of DNCC," he said.
"More than half, or 53 per cent, of the total expenses will be covered from DNCC's own funds in FY 2024-25."
He also noted that the DNCC achieved a new milestone without increasing tax rates by digitalising many services, making it easier for taxpayers to access hassle-free services.
Between FY 2020 and 2023, the DNCC collected revenue worth Tk 6.12 billion, Tk 6.92 billion, Tk 7.94 billion, and Tk 10.58 billion.
In the last fiscal year (2024), the DNCC collected over Tk 5.17 billion in holding tax, Tk 749 million for trade licenses, and Tk 2.8 billion in property ownership transfer fees, among others.
