DNCC fines 10 businesses Tk 0.135m

A mobile court, run by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), realised Tk 0.135 million in fine from 10 business establishments in the city's Mohammadpur area on Thursday for violating consumer rights.
A DNCC team led by executive magistrate Sajid Anwar conducted the drive from 12.00pm to 2.00pm as part of the corporation's intensified monitoring of the kitchen markets for the holy month of Ramadan, a statement said.
Three vegetable traders and grocers in Townhall Kanchabazar were fined Tk10,000 each for not displaying the price list publicly and overpricing the goods exceeding the limits set by the government as per the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.
A couple of business establishments were fined Tk35,000 for running their activities occupying the footpath illegally.
Two food shops in Shyamoli area named Muslim Sweets and Kancha Lanka Restaurant were fined Tk20,000 each for not maintaining food safety standard.
Such drives against consumer rights violation will continue in the coming days, the DNCC statement added.
