DNCC launches ‘10-day combing operation’ to combat dengue

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) launched a '10-day combing operation' on Sunday to prevent breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, which are responsible for dengue fever.

Earlier, educationist Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed in presence of DNCC Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam inaugurated the campaign titled 'Ward-wise Aedes mosquito breeding source destruction and cleanliness campaign' on Tuesday.

DNCC, as an experiment, conducted the combing operation in three blocks of ward 19 of the DNCC on Thursday.

On Sunday, the campaign began at all 36 wards of the city corporation at a time, according to a statement.

Under the 10-day campaign, the DNCC teams were divided in 10 blocks of every ward and 10 sub-blocks of each block. The teams involved the locals to facilitate the campaign.

On Sunday-on the first day of the campaign, the DNCC teams visited 9,736 houses and institutions in 36 wards of the DNCC. They found Aedes larvae in 258 houses.

The teams also destroyed the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes of 3,123 houses and institutions.

A team of DNCC led by Executive Magistrate Sazid Anwar conducted mobile court in Gulshan area on Sunday. The team fined a construction company Tk 0.2 million after it detected Aedes mosquito larvae in its establishment.
