DNCC launches special mosquito control campaign

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) launched a special cleaning and mosquito repelling campaign in 536 educational institutions on Saturday to prevent spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

The move came against the backdrop of increase in the risks of breeding and spreading of Aedes mosquitoes in various places, including offices, schools and colleges, after the long Eid holiday.

DNCC Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan inaugurated the special mosquito control campaign titled 'Clean School, No Mosquito' on the Dhaka Residential Model School and College campus.

Speaking on the occasion, he said with the monsoon season approaching, there has been a risk of dengue outbreak this year. So, now it is the high time to take necessary preparations.

"After a long closure, thecampuses are opening. This programme is being conducted with special emphasis on preventing the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes on the campuses," he added.

DNCC Chief Health Officer Brig. General Imru-al-Quais along with other officials were present on the occasion.

Mr Imru-al-Quais said the special programme has been taken to ensure the health safety of students, keeping in mind the future of the country.

Under the programme, mosquito repelling activities, including removal and destruction of Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, will be conducted in 536 educational institutions, including schools, colleges and madrasas, under the DNCC within three days, he added.
