Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in separate drives in different divisional cities Sunday fined 36 restaurants and groceries for producing foods in unhygienic atmosphere, selling date-expired goods and not showing price-chart, reports BSS.
In a drive led by Director of DNCRP Head Office Iftekharul Alam in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area fined Taka 20,000 New Star Hotel for producing foods (Iftari) in unhygienic ways, Taka 10,000 each for Prince Restaurant and Ghoroya Hotel and Restaurant, Taka 5,000 for Royal Pharmacy for selling date-expired drugs.
In another drive led by Dhaka Divisional Office Assistant Director Atia Sultana at Mirpur area here fined Chandpur General Store taka five thousand for not showing price-chart and Rahman Store taka five thousand for selling date-expired goods.
On the other hand, in a drive led by Chittagong Divisional Office Deputy Director Zubaer Ahmed at Chaktai area of Chittagong Kotowali thana fined Taka 55 thousand for four institutions while in another drive led by Sylhet Divisional Office Deputy Director Md Kamal Uddin at Sylhet Sadar area fined eight institutions Taka 16,500.
Besides, in separate drives, two institutions of Khalishpur upazila of Khulna were fined Taka 40,000, eights institutions of Barisal Sadar upazila Taka 14,000, two institutions of Rangpur Sadar upazila Taka 9,000, four institutions of Rajshahi Sadar upazila were penalised Taka 45,000 for not printing MRP (maximum retail price) on goods' packs, producing foods in unhygienic ways, selling date-expired products and artifice in weight.
