A consumer watchdog during a drive on Saturday fined a refuelling station in the city Tk0.25 million on charge of tampering with the fuel oil volume.
A market monitoring team of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) realised the fine from Karim and Sons Filling Station in Motijheel.
The team comprised DNCRP assistant directors Abdul Jabbar Mondol, Magfur Rahman and Mahmuda Akter, a statement said.
During the drive, they discovered rigging at the two octane dispensing units of the accused fuel supplier.
One of the units was found discharging 540 millilitre (ml) less octane in every five litres while another was giving 490 ml less in the same volume.
The filling station was fined as per the Consumers' Right Protection Act, 2009 on charge of cheating in weight and discontinuation of service before 12.00am aiming to sell octane and diesel at higher prices.
The two octane dispensing units were directed to suspend service for the sake of consumers' interest.
Meanwhile, another fuel supplier Ramna Filing Station failed to show required documents including trade license and it had no fire safety measures.
The filling station suspended operations on Friday evening despite having stock of 27,623 litres octane to misuse the fuel price hike by the government.
They were asked to refute the allegations by attending the DNCRP head office in person today (Sunday) 9.30am.
