DNCRP settles 92.58pc complaints in 5 years

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) settled 92.58 per cent of a total of 661 complaints during the last five years and realised fine to the tune of more than Tk 97 million from unscrupulous traders for violating consumers' rights and the existing laws.     

Besides, a total of 145 consumers received Tk 383,875 in fined money following settlement of their complaints against unscrupulous traders.

The number of complaints lodged in 2010 was 73 which were settled. In 2011 the number was 5 and those were also resolved. In 2012 the number of complaints was 69 which were also resolved. In 2013 the number was 32 and 30 of those were settled and in 2014 the number of complaints was 482 and out of them 435 were settled. However, 98 complaints are now under investigation.   

The DNCRP has also conducted drives at the just-concluded Dhaka International Fair (DITF). It realised Tk 105,000 as fines from unscrupulous traders for violating consumers' rights.  

Out of the amount, Tk 5,375 was given among 5 complainants (consumers) while 24 customers got back Tk 18,750 from the traders.
