Women domestic helps of the Dhaka city Sunday placed a 10-point demand to the government that included recognising them as labourers, ensuring equitable wages and framing a minimum code of conduct for them, reports UNB.
The demands came at a dialogue entitled 'Citizen Dialogue on the Experience of Women Domestic Helpers of Dhaka City' held in the city Sunday.
ActionAid Bangladesh and its partner organisation Assistance for Slum Dwellers (ASD) organised the dialogue where a few hundred women domestic helpers were present and shared their experiences.
Based on the demands that came out in the dialogue, a draft code of conduct would be formulated. ActionAid Bangladesh, ASD and likeminded organisations would negotiate with the government regarding the demands and try to bring those under a legal framework.
