DPHE, JICA organise seminar

A seminar on "Medium-term Operational Plan for Strengthening Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance System in Bangladesh" was organised by DPHE in collaboration with JICA in the city Tuesday.
DPHE Chief Engineer Mustafizur Rahman was present as the chief guest at the seminar while JICA Bangladesh Office Resident Representative Nobuko Suzuki Kayashima was present as the special guest at the function.
The mid-term operational plan was presented at the seminar for discussion and it would be finalised based on the recommendations raised in the seminar.
JICA Preparatory Assistance Project formulated with the objective to institutionalise Water Quality Testing, Monitoring and Surveillance towards ensuring safe drinking water.
Speaking on the occasion, Mustafizur Rahman emphasised on the importance of water quality monitoring and surveillance to ensure safe drinking water for the people while Bangladesh is encountering serious arsenic contamination of groundwater.
Nobuko Suzuki Kayashima said that the mid-term plan is a kind of commitment of DPHE to ensure safe drinking water throughout the country and now it is time for the next stage to take real actions.
She urged all stakeholders including government organisations, development partners and NGOs to support DPHE for effective use of laboratories and make them functional for providing safe water to the people.
