Dr Sultan Ahmed joined as Secretary of Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Tuesday.
Before joining as the power secretary, he was the chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, or RAJUK.
Previously he served as director general of the Department of Environment and additional secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Mr Ahmed is a career bureaucrat having more than 30 years of work experience in various capacities in different ministries and public offices including the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control and Local Government Engineering Department.
He joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1986 in eighth batch after graduating from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Civil Engineering.
Mr Ahmed hails from Char Fassion Upazila under Bhola district. He is a South Asian Water (SAWA) fellow.
