Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday from now on drives will be conducted anytime and anywhere against unfit vehicles and drivers without licences across the country, reports UNB.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after visiting the ongoing mobile court drives against unfit vehicles in front of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
"We've adopted a new strategy for conducting drives against vehicles without fitness. From now on, the drives will be conducted anytime and anywhere in the country," warned Quader.
Besides, five mobile courts under the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will conduct drives from today (Thursday), he added.
The minister also said the drives will continue until the rate of traffic congestion and incidents of road accidents come down.
The BRTA started the drives against vehicles without fitness across the country from November 10. During the drive, a total of 7164 cases were filed and TK 5.216 million realised in fine, he said.
Besides, 192 vehicles were dumped and 36 drivers sentenced to different jail terms during the drives conducted by the BRTA till date, he added.
Quader also said, "We've been trying to tackle the crisis of public transports. The government has taken an initiative to procure 400 more BRTC buses, aiming to reduce public sufferings."
He also sought help from businesspeople for introducing more public buses for resolving the crisis of public transports.
