‘Drug peddler’ dies in M’singh ‘gunfight’

MYMENSINGH, Sept 08 (UNB): A suspected drug peddler was killed in an alleged gunfight with members of police's Detective Branch at Nizam Nagar in Sadar upazila in the early hours of Sunday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Sajal Mia (24), son of Arju Mia of Krishtopur of Mymensingh city. Police said he was accused in six cases.
Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge (OC) of DB, said one of their teams raided the area around 1:30 am after being tipped off that drug peddlers were selling drugs in the area.
The drug peddlers opened fire as soon as the DB team reached the area, triggering a gunfight, the OC said.
Sajal, who was shot during the gunfight, was arrested and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Akand said.
Police recovered three knives and 100gm heroin from the spot, the OC said.
