DSCC to remove Eid-time animal waste in 24 hours

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Wednesday that the wastes of sacrificial animals, produced on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, would be removed within 24 hours.
He made the comment to the media after visiting the National Eid Congregation Ground (Jatiya Eidgah Maidan) in the capital.
The DSCC mayor called upon the city dwellers to complete sacrificing their animals within two days - on the Eid day and the following day.
He said wastes produced in the city's cattle markets would be removed within 72 hours from the Eid day.
"We have taken steps to keep the cattle market management orderly. Dhaka city dwellers could easily purchase cattle from the markets."
He further said measures have been taken not to allow creating traffic jam on the roads due to setting up the cattle markets. It would facilitate the city dwellers to return to their respective village homes sans hassle for celebrating the festival.
The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 17.
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has added 32 new dump trucks and eight compactor trucks to its waste management unit to enhance capacity.
The new vehicles would help the city authority to clean up the additional waste, created during the Eid-ul-Azha, within a period of six hours, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said on Wednesday.
"These trucks - procured with the city corporation's own fund - will assist the DNCC to maneuver additional 350 tonnes of waste every day. The new eight compactor trucks are capable of carrying 10 times more waste than regular trucks. The DNCC has spent Tk 300 million to purchase the vehicles, which also proves the corporation's enhanced capability."
He said these while talking to the journalists during commissioning of the new vehicles at Gabtoli.
The DNCC mayor noted that the corporation cleared the sacrificial wastes within eight hours last year. The new equipments would help accomplish the task within six hours this year.
