DSCC to set up public toilets at petrol pumps

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken a move to set up public toilets at each petrol pump and CNG-refuelling station aiming to ensure sanitary facilities for city dwellers, officials said.

On the instructions of its newly-elected mayor, they said, the city corporation collected a list of such petrol pumps and refuelling stations.

DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon broke the news on Sunday while exchanging views with reporters at Nagar Bhaban, the administrative building of the city corporation.

"We're seriously thinking of installing public toilets at petrol pumps and CNG refuelling stations where enough space will be available," he said.

Admitting the fact of poor management at the existing public toilets, he said the toilets to be set up would have all modern facilities for making them usable for all sections of the society so that no one can face any trouble in terms of hygienic access, security and water.

"The toilets will also be female-friendly as the city has no such public toilets usable for women," he said, adding that they are likely to sit with the owners of petrol pumps and refuelling stations by this week.

The special move has come as the DSCC is struggling to provide sanitary facilities with its limited resources due to pressure of growing population for years.
