DU authorities lodge case over attack on students

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have filed a case with New Market Police Station in connection an attack on DU students in the capital's Science Laboratory area of the capital on January 15.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office on Friday night.
The case was lodged without naming any suspects on Thursday night following protests over an obstruction and attack on a DU bus.
According to the statement, immediately after the incident, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan spoke with the home adviser regarding the security of DU students.
The incident occurred when students from seven colleges blocked the Science Laboratory area on Thursday afternoon, demanding the issuance of an ordinance for the proposed Dhaka Central University. During the blockade, a DU bus was stopped and attacked by the protesters while heading toward the campus. Several students were injured in the attack,.
Upon receiving the information, members of the DU Proctorial Body and the university's transport manager rushed to the spot and managed to escort the bus safely.
