DU celebrates 103rd founding anniversary

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities, employees, teachers and students observed its 103rd founding anniversary with great enthusiasm and festivity on Saturday.

Dhaka University is the highest echelon of education of the country. The main theme of this year's celebration is 'the role of universities in building a smart Bangladesh.'

To mark the day, the national flag and university's flag were hoisted in the central playground of the university and the national anthem was sung at around 10:00am. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

The DU authorities along with the teachers, students, officials and employees, led by the DU VC Dr Akhtaruzzaman, brought out a procession from the Memory Eternal Chattar of the campus.

A discussion programme was also held at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium on the occasion. Dr Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, presented the main article at the discussion. DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr A S M Maksud Kamal, DU Treasurer Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) General Secretary Prof Dr Zeenat Huda, Acting Secretary General of DU Alumni Association (DUAA) Suvas Chandra Singho Roy, DU unit General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Tanvir Hasan Saikot and others also spoke at the discussion. Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker conducted the discussion programme.

The university authorities also arranged cultural sessions, sports and debate competitions to celebrate the day.

DU VC Dr Akhtaruzzaman asked the students, teachers and others to enrich technological knowledge for building a smart Bangladesh.

Dr Mashiur Rahman said, "The applied and technological knowledge should be compulsory from the school level. So, the skilled manpower can build the nation smartly."

DU started its academic activities on July 1 in 1921 with 12 departments, three faculties and 60 teachers.
