A fire broke out at Dhaka University (DU) Central Library building creating panic among students on Sunday.
The blaze that originated from an electric short circuit caused no casualty and could be doused within 15 minutes of its ensuing. No books were burnt and nothing was damaged in the fire but the electricity connection was severely damaged.
After the incident, the library was closed and it will be opened after checking the entire electric system, acting librarian Prof SM Zabed Ahmed said.
DU Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani said, "The fire broke out on the ground floor of the three-storey building at 10:45am and students and library employees called in the fire service. Firefighters managed to put out the fire within 15 minutes."
