The Dhaka University (DU) administration has formed a central coordination committee for celebration of the Bangla New Year 1433.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Saima Haque Bidisha has been appointed as the convener of the committee, while Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof Dr Md Azharul Islam Sheikh isthe member secretary. Several subcommittees have also been formed to ensure the smooth organisation of the programme.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on Tuesday at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the university campus. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam.
According to a press release issued by the DU Public Relations Office, detailed discussions were held on overall preparations and progress to ensure a festive and well-organised celebration.
This year's theme has been set as "Harmony of the New Year, Revival of Democracy."
As per the press release, the traditional Ananda Shobhajatra will begin at 09:00 am on Pahela Baishakh from the Faculty of Fine Arts. The procession will pass through Raju Sculpture, Doel Chattar and Bangla Academy before concluding at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
In consideration of security, wearing masks and carrying bags will be prohibited on campus during the celebration. However, masks created by the Faculty of Fine Arts may be carried by hand for display.
