The central library of Dhaka University (DU) reopened on Sunday after a long break of about one and a half years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the moment of reopening, the authorities tried to maintain health guidelines and wanted to see the identity and vaccination cards of the students, but the students ignored the rules and entered the library together. At this time, DU Assistant Proctor Dr Litan Kumar Saha attempted to slap an agitating student allegedly.
Afterwards, the agitating students surrounded the assistant proctor and demanded to know why he attempted to slap their classmate. At the same time, the students also forced two journalists not to take pictures or videos.
DU Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, Chief Librarian Dr Md Nasir Uddin Munshi and General Secretary of DU Teachers' Association Dr Md Nizamul Hoque Buiyan came to the spot and controlled the situation.
Dr Litan Kumar Saha denied the allegation.
Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani said, "According to the instructions, former students are not allowed into the library but the students have violated it."
