Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurating celebration of the 102nd founding anniversary of the university on its campus on Friday — UNB Dhaka University (DU) observed its 102nd birth anniversary on Friday with great enthusiasm and festivity.
This year, the main theme is 'Research and invention: industry-academia collaboration'.
To mark the day, the national flag and the university flag were hoisted in the university's central playground with the recitation of national anthem around 10am.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. The authorities also brought out a procession, led by the VC, from the central playground where teachers, students, officials and other employees were present.
A discussion programme titled 'Research and invention: industry-academia collaboration' was held at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium, chaired by the DU VC.
Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman of the Palli Karma Sayahak Foundation (PKSF), was the keynote speaker at the discussion. DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) General Secretary Prof Dr Md Nizamul Hoque Buiyan, President of DU Alumni Association (DUAA) Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury, Senate member Md. Saddam Hossain and others also addressed the discussion. Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker conducted the discussion.
The university authorities also arranged cultural sessions, sports and debate competitions to mark the day.
VC Akhtaruzzaman emphasised the need for enriching the industry-academia collaboration in research and invention sector and said, "Government, academia, industry and alumni have to work together for enriching the sector."
