DU MCJ Alumni Assoc gets new committee

Dhaka University's Mass Communication and Journalism Department's alumni association has got a new committee after a long time on March 8.

The committee comprising thirty members was formed through an election held at the alumni floor of the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the university in the evening where the listed alumni of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) exercised their franchise. The chief election commissioner, Professor Dr Golam Rahman, announced the results after vote counting ended at 11:30 pm.

Former District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shamsul Haque has been made president of the committee and senior news editor of Channel i- Mir Attaqui Masruruzzaman has been made general secretary.

Kabir Mahmud, joint secretary of the Local Government Ministry, Kamal Uddin Jasim, vice president of Islami Bank, Manas Ghosh, member secretary of Broadcast Journalist Centre, and Gias Uddin Ahmed, additional DIG of police, have been elected vice presidents of the new committee.

Hasan Ullah Khan Rana, sports editor of the daily Kalbela, Sharmin Iffat Shams of BTV and Kabir Ahmed Khan, former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity, have been elected joint general secretaries of the body.

Shakil Hasan, senior reporter of Jamuna TV, has been elected organising secretary, BBC Bangla journalist Rakib Hasnat Sumon has been elected treasurer and Sharmin Ahmed, chairman of the Communication Disorder Department of Dhaka University, has been made publication secretary.

Mehedi Hasan, staff reporter of the Daily Sun, has been elected communication secretary, development activist Mostafa Mohammad Tahan cultural affairs secretary and Tarek Hasan Nirjhor has been elected office secretary.

The elected executive members of the committee are: Tariqul Islam Khan Robin, Md Ali Asif Shawon, Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi, Muhammad Zahidul Islam (Sajal Zahid), KM Shakhawat Moon, Nazmul Alam Naveen, Mazharul Anwar Khan Shipu, Lopa Hossain, Shawkat Ahmed Faridi, Reza Farhad, Sharmin Akhtar, Masood Bin Abdur Razzaq, Amina Islam, Rafiqul Islam and Oliur Rahman.
