DU Prof Fazlul Huq passes away

A doa mahfil will be held today (Tuesday) after Asar prayers at Ananda Ullash Community Centre at Road Number 13 at Dhanmondi in the city to pray for the salvation of the soul of Dr AKM Fazlul Huq, former professor of Soil Science of Dhaka University (DU).
Mr Fazlul Huq passed away in his sleep on Thursday morning at a local hospital. He was 93, said a press release.
Dr Huq was born in Baufal Thana of Barisal district in 1921. His parents hailed from Chauddagram thana of Comilla district.
He was a student of Chemistry of DU and completed his MSc in 1943. While at DU, he was University Blue in 1941 for being the best athlete.
 In 1983, he was elected Dhaka University Football Hall of Fame. He completed his Doctorate in Botanical Chemistry from McGill University in 1955 and returned to Dhaka and joined the very new Soil Science Department.
 Eventually he retired from the Water Development Board as Member (Supplies and Services).
 He left behind his wife, Begum Jahanara Huq, nine children, many grandchildren, brothers and sisters, cousins, relatives, and admirers to mourn his death.
