DU recasts body against sexual harassment

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have reconstituted the committee against sexual harassment in the wake of increased sexual abuse in the country's leading public university.

Following massive criticism and students' agitation, the university authorities recently temporarily terminated chairman of the Theatre and Performance Studies Department on allegation of sexual harassment of a female student of the same department.   

The university's syndicate, apex decision- making body, recently approved the five-member committee led by the university Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmad.

Other members of the committee are: Prof Mahfuza Khanam, Associate Prof Nilima Aktar, Lecturer Afrin Chowdhury and Advocate Sayed Rezaur Rahman.
