DU student detained for playing Sheikh Mujib's speech


A student of Dhaka University (DU), Asif Ahmed, has been detained for allegedly playing the March 7 speech of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Chankharpul area of the capital.
Md. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station, said, "He was playing Sheikh Mujib's March 7 speech. It is prohibited. We brought him to the station, as there was a complaint."
The OC also said, "We have just brought him in. After discussion with our seniors, we will be able to say what the next step will be."
The detained is a student of Physics Department of 2018-19 academic session, and he resides at Shahidullah Hall.
Witnesses said on the occasion of March 7, Asif was playing Sheikh Mujibur's speech on a sound system in Chankharpul area. Police later arrived at the scene, where a brief argument took place between them and the student. The police then took him to the station.
The sound system operator and owner were also taken to the police station, and the equipment was seized from the spot. As of filing this report, the student was still at the police station.
