DU students get DUEDAA scholarships

Seventy-one MA students from the economics department of the Dhaka University (DU) were awarded annual scholarships by the Dhaka University Economics Department Alumni Association (DUEDAA) at a function at the DU Social Science Faculty auditorium recently, says a press release.

DUEDAA President Prof Hossain Zillur Rahman was present as the chief guest while Prof Fariduddin Ahmed, DUEDAA general secretary and dean of Social Science faculty, was the special guest at the function.

Prof MA Taslim, chairman of the DU economics department, presided over the function. Ambassador Liaquat Ali Choudhury, Prof Abu Ahmed and Md Iftekhar Hossain were present on the occasion.

This year, a total of 121 students received scholarships worth Tk 3.0 million.

Prof Zillur told the students that DUEDAA had  been running an annual essay competition to nurture tomorrow's thinkers and urged them to compete the competition which carries a top prize of Tk 0.1 million. This year's topic is 'How important is Social Development for Economic Growth?' The deadline for submission is August 31, 2014.
