The Dhaka University (DU) students on Sunday locked the gates of academic and administrative buildings as part of their continuous protest to press home their four-point demand that includes cancellation of affiliation of seven colleges with the university.
They also announced to boycott all classes and examinations indefinitely and also to stage demonstration until their demands are met.
Abed Hossain Akash declared this on behalf of the protesters at the alter of Raju Sculpture at 2pm on Sunday.
He informed the academic and administrative activities of the university slowed down due to the affiliation with seven colleges.
The main gates of Registrar Building, Arts Building, Business Faculty, Institute of Modern Languages and Social Sciences Building had been locked since morning and the situation continued for the whole day. The employees of the university did not unlock the gates as they were under pressure by the agitated students.
Many students came to the university to attend classes, but they returned observing the condition of their campus.
The agitated students also brought out processions after blocking roads surrounding Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
DU Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani said the issues should be dealt through dialogue.
"This type of protest can't be a solution to any problem, we are ready to learn their thoughts," the proctor added.
Apart from cancelling the affiliation of seven colleges, the agitated DU students have been demanding automation of the university's administrative and academic activities, controlling external vehicles' movement inside the university campus and publishing results within two months of the exams.
