Teachers and students of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday staged a demonstration on the campus demanding reopening of all the educational institutions, including the university along with its residential halls, immediately with maintaining health guidelines.

With participation of around 100 students from various departments of DU and ten teachers, a rally was held at the base of Raju Sculpture on the campus.

The rally was held under the banner of 'Reopen Hall-institutions Movement'.

Addressing the rally, DU Law Department Chairman Professor Md Asif Nazrul questioned, "If garment factories, shopping malls, banks, vehicles can operate normally maintaining health guidelines, why will the educational institutions have to remain closed?

All educational institutions should be reopened immediately maintaining health guidelines, he said.

"Many students can't participate in their online academic activities due to lack of digital device and even the government also can't take effective plans to recover from loss in education sector," he added.

Asif Nazrul said further fearing students' movement and protest, the government is extending closure of the educational institutions.

Associate Professor of Persian Language and Literature Department Abu Musa Md Arif Billah said, "Education Minister changes her decision over and over and the university administration runs its schedule following her declaration. As if it's the only duty of the university. It has lost its autonomous power."

Asif Mahmud, a student of Linguist Department, also co-ordinator of the movement, said, "All students have become frustrated for a long gap in studies and distancing from campus environment."
