DU to open three more departments

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have decided to open three more departments from the upcoming academic year to educate students on a wide range of subjects.
These departments are: Department of Printing and Publication Studies under the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Public Health under the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Department of Mechatronics Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, a DU media release says.
According to statistics available on the university's website, presently the university has 13 faculties, 71 departments, 10 Institutes, 17 dormitories, 3 hostels and 38 research centres.
The number of departments at the country's largest university is now 74 with the total enrolment of students being around 33,112.
The university enrolls more than 5,800 students at its undergraduate level every year. Besides conducting teaching courses under the four-year Bachelor and one-year Master's degree programmes, the university also trains up a large number of researchers in different major areas including business, sciences, arts and fine arts.
More than 842 Ph D and 673 M Phil researchers have obtained their degrees from this university, the release says.
